New York City FC on the road for tough test first up against the Columbus Crew

After a thrilling goal with the minutes winding down to tie things up against Charlotte FC in their last match at Citi Field, the New York City Football Club is on the road for two tough road matches.

Prior to getting to the preview, here is a bit more of a look at the team’s last match against Charlotte.

Helping to lead the way in the team’s latest tie is Defender Braian Cufré. One of the things that has trended well for the Boys in Blue is the fact that they fared well in the statistical side of the match, and that trend continued, as they led in expected goals (1.85 to 0.19), shots (21 to 3), shots on target (5 to 2), shots inside the box (14 to 1), total big chances (1 to 0), touches in the opposition box (31 to 8) and possession (58.1 to 41.9).

Check out the following video to get fans of the club ready for the match in Columbus on 7/8 featuring thoughts from Head Coach Nick Cushing and Defender Maxime Chanot….video is compliments of New York City FC:

NYCFC very much hopes that somehow the combination of the effort they have put into training, the sheer positivity Coach Cushing brings every time that he is around his squad and the fact that they have been patient during this development process can hopefully start to get rewarded.

The road is not going to get any easier for this squad as they are currently on the road at Lower.com Field to take on the Columbus Crew.

Thus far in the 2023 Season the Crew are in 4th place in the MLS standings as they hold a 10-5-6 record. NYCFC has not fared well on the road as they hold a 1W-5L-6D record, the good news is that nine of the team’s 23 goals were scored on the road.

This is going to be the second meeting between NYCFC and Columbus, as it has been three weeks since the franchise last meeting at Yankee Stadium. In that one Gabe Segal found the equalizing goal for the 1-1 draw.

One of the trends that NYCFC hopes to reverse in this trip is the fact that the team has not been able to see a victory at Lower.com Field in the two trips they have made to the Ohio area. The first trip on July 17, 2021, was a 2-1 result in favor of the Crew, the second was a 3-2 decision also in favor of the Crew.

The players to watch for in the match to be played on Saturday is going to be Santiago Rodríguez, Talles Magno, Keaton Parks, Gabriel Pereira, and Gabe Segal as they are the players who have been able to score against Columbus.

As Coach Cushing beats the drum of belief in his team, and belief that at any moment that they can string together positive results the hope is that possibly today the team can pull out something to be proud of.

It all goes down on Saturday July 8, as New York City FC takes on the Columbus Crew in MLS action at Lower.com Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:39 p.m.

In added news the franchise announced recently that they have signed Defender Drew Baiera to a Homegrown contract through 2027 with an option for 2028.
