There were a ton of storylines in the Washington Mystics (10-7) 96-88 victory over the Indiana Fever (5-13).
A wide range of emotions were felt at the Entertainment and Sports Arena, as the Mystics sorted through the passing of one of the W’s greats in Nikki McCray-Penson addition to the potential crowning of one of the W’s new stars in Queen Egbo, as she saw her first points in the Washington D.C. Area.
To learn more about Queen’s first day in the Washington D.C. area and to hear her thoughts on her first ever trade fans are encouraged to check out the video below for that and thoughts from Linnae Harper…video is compliments of the Washington Mystics:
Another development that has fans of the team excited is the new duo of Ariel Atkins and Brittney Sykes, as they stepped up big in the team’s latest victory.
Atkins, on her bobblehead night, showed up, finishing with her first career double-double, on a season-high 26 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
Ariel is one that has impressed many in the Mystics organization with her poise, her leadership ability and her ability to score. The best part is the season is that she is trending upward at just the right time.
The Guard is currently sitting on the footsteps of history, as with the next two three’s away she gets to surpass the mark set by Ivory Latta (308) for the most three-point shots made in franchise history.
That is going to be something for fans to watch as the WNBA season progresses.
The other news that has fans hyped of is the play of Sykes, ever since joining the team the guard has not only fit in but contributed some incredible moments.
In the latest impressive numbers put up by Sykes, this is her stat line versus Indiana as she recorded season-high 29 points, adding five rebounds, two assists and one steal.
The 29 points are the second-most points scored by a Mystics player this season, behind Elena Delle Donne’s 31-point performance on June 30.
Having both Atkins and Sykes stepping up, while Delle Donne, Natasha Cloud and Shakira Austin are healing is huge, as it gives the Mystics a confidence boost that they can win games without the trio.
Fans can check out the thoughts from Coach Eric along with Atkins and Sykes by checking out the following video…compliments of the Washington Mystics:
There were some other impressive performances in the team’s victory that included the play of Myisha Hines-Allen and Walker-Kimbrough.
One of the more impressive stats is the fact that the Mystics held the Fever to just five offensive rebounds tonight. Coming into the night, the Fever were second in the league in offensive rebounds averaging 9.8 offensive boards per game.
Up next for the Washington Mystics the ladies are on the road to take on the Connecticut Sun on July 9 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. Start time between the Mystics and Sun is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
