One of the great boxing rivalries is about to be renewed as Matchroom Boxing has a rematch between British heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte set for August 12 at The O2 in London. Fans wanting to catch the action can catch the action on DAZN.
Joshua is a two-time Heavyweight World Champion (25-3, 22 KOs) goes up against former World Title Challenger White (29-3, 19K). The last time these two boxing greats met was eight years ago, as they fought in a wild British Title Clash in Greenwich.
That bout is a memorable one as Joshua won by a huge seventh-round stoppage.
These two have had a long-standing feud with the other, as White beat Joshua on points as an amateur back in 2009 before Joshua won an Olympic Gold Medal in London in 2012. That moment is a huge one for Josh as that kick-started his rise to stardom.
Joshua, known to friends and fans as ‘AJ’ has been keeping busy since his last clash with Whyte, as he has gone on to unite the heavyweight division, winning the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO crowns. Anthony has had some memorable moments thus far in the world of boxing as he has a string of wins over Charles Martin, Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker, Alexander Povetkin, Andy Ruiz and Kubrat Pulev.
Whyte, hailing from Jamaica, has aspirations of fighting for a world title and this rematch against a tough Joshua is going to be hopefully that step for the 36-year-old fighter to reach that level.
“I’ve been clear that my plan is to be active this year,” said Joshua. “August 12 is the date, I’ll be ready to fight. I look forward to dealing with business.”
“I’m looking forward to returning to the London O2 on August 12 and going to war,” said Whyte. “It’s 1-1 so this is the decider!”
