New York City FC gets back to their Winning Ways in 1-0 decision over CF Montréal

It has been a long time coming for New York City FC (5-7-9) as after 11 results of either a loss or a draw the Boys in Blue saw their first victory over CF Montréal (8-10-2) by a final of 1-0 in MLS Action on Saturday.

With the positive mindset of Head Coach Nick Cushing and the supporters fully behind them through this stretch, the team got rewarded for all the time and effort that they have been putting on the pitch.
Both teams had to endure a weather delay, but the wait was well worth it, in what was a spirited matchup between these two MLS squads.

NYCFC had the momentum early when Santiago Rodríguez tried for the first opportunity that was saved. Talles Magno had two opportunities, but both were unable to find the back of the cage.

New York City FC Head Coach Head Coach Nick Cushing and Midfielder Matias Pellegrini shares these thoughts after the team’s 1-0 victory…video is compliments of NYCFC:

It was in the 33′ when Matías Pellegrini found the back of the cage, on a brilliant scissor kick. With the boys in blue holding steady at the half, it was all about the defense from there.

There was a ton of action by both squads as they were able to get great quality chances, including around the 68′ when Braian Cufré made an attempt for the second goal of the night.

Coach Cushing made the call for some fresh legs around the 71′ Richy Ledezma and Gabe Segal made their way to the pitch.

They provided extra energy and endurance as the Boys in Blue held their ground, in finally earning their first victory. In addition, the decision was the team’s first victory on the road as well, which is a relief, as the team thus far has played well at home.

The great news for the supporters and for the team is that they have a chance to return to their home field. As New York City FC plays Charlotte FC on Wednesday, July 5th at 7:30 pm ET at Citi Field Stadium in Queens, New York.
