Washington Mystics have total team effort in 108-86 Victory against Atlanta

Seeing contributions from all of the roster and looking dominant on both sides of the floor the Washington Mystics (9-5) defeated the Atlanta Dream (5-8) 109-86 in WNBA action on Wednesday.

Mystics fans are encouraged to check out the following Press Conference video from prior to the game vs the Dream featuring thoughts from Head Coach Eric Thibault along with Abby Meyers and Brittney Sykes………compliments of the Washington Mystics:

One of the trends for the team during the course of the 2023 season is how they have dealt with adversity. The most recent news came in New York when Shakira Austin went down with an injury. She has been recently diagnosed with a left hip strain and is going to miss the next three weeks.

The Mystics though, while missing those key players on the court, have somehow or the other have players step up and help contribute to the team’s victory. The latest being able to score an impressive 109 points.

The 109 points is a season-high, and a first for the ladies since posting 101 on May 21, 2021, in New York. The mark is also ranked as the third-most points in franchise history.

There were some impressive numbers put together by the team when it comes time for their shooting performance, as they finished with 53.4 % from the field, 50% from three, and 95.2% from the free-throw line.

As a whole they were able to reach some rarefied air as this is the fourth time in franchise history the team shot 50% or higher from the field, 50% from three and 95% or higher from the free-throw line.
This is the first time this season a team has shot 50% or higher from the field.

Starting off the impressive individual performances Elena Delle Donne continues her MVP (in this case MVEDD) campaign with the following stats against Atlanta, 25 points, seven rebounds, four assist, and two blocks.

Mystics fans can also check out the following Post Game Press Conference video featuring Head Coach Eric along with Ariel Atkins and Elena Delle Donne….video is compliments of the Washington Mystics:

This is the third game this season scoring 25+ on 55% or better from the field and is tied for the most games in the WNBA. In addition, Delle Donne is on a streak of 36 consecutive made free-throws.

Having a monstrous night for the Mystics Brittney Sykes impressed on both sides of the floor. Sykes in the Second Quarter showed that she is in fact a real-life superhero by almost leaping out of the Entertainment and Sports Arena, with an incredible block on a shot that was made by Haley Jones.

In addition, ‘Slim’ finished the night with her first double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 10 assists. There is a bit of a milestone moment for Sykes, as she was able to have her 500th career assist.

Also having an impressive showing is Ariel Atkins, as she had a well-balanced attack of 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

One of the players that helped to step up in the absence of Austin is that of Myisha Hines-Allen as she had a season-high 16 points, to go along with three rebounds and a block.

These two teams are going to meet again, in what is going to be a quick turnaround as the Mystics and Dream head to Atlanta for a game in the Gateway Center Arena @ College Park on June 30. Tip between the two squads is set for 7:30 p.m.
