There were so many storylines as the New York Liberty (10-3) entered into the game against the Connecticut Sun (12-4).
Fans of the Liberty are encouraged to check out the pre-game press conference video featuring Head Coach Sandy Brondello and Jonquel Jones...compliments of the New York Liberty:
Lots of emotions and memories and moments for players such as Jonquel Jones, as she played for the Sun during the 2016-2022 seasons. Then emotions for Breanna Stewart and Stefanie Dolson, as the duo played their collegiate career with the University of Connecticut.
Somehow the New York Liberty were able to balance that and how to hang tight against a very tough Connecticut Sun squad in the team’s latest 89-81 victory in WNBA action on 6/27/23.
With the team as a whole having a 48.6% (34-70) shooting from the field, 45% (9-20) from three, and 85.7% (12-14) from the free throw line.
Things were definitely a nailbiter between the two squads though, as there were 15 lead changes. It was the Liberty coming out on top though thanks to their four double-digit scorers in Stewart, Jones, Courtney Vandersloot , and Betnijah Laney
In a bit of a milestone moment for Stewart, she became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach the 4,000-career points plateau with a bucket at the 1:27 mark in the first quarter. Stewart showed why she was voted to the 2023 WNBA All-Star game, with some impressive numbers against the Sun, with having a game-high 24 points on 64.7% (11-17) shooting from the floor.
Vandersloot continues to show an impressive court vision and shooting ability, adding 17 points on 46.2% from the field, nine assists and six rebounds.
Laney has been impressive with her shot making ability in putting in 16 points on 41.7% from the floor, including a 50% mark from the three-point arc.
To round out the scoring leaders Jonquel, showered with much love and affection by fans of the Sun, gave their fans a show with her 14 points on 66.7% from the field, along with a season-high tying 11 rebounds, four blocks, two assist. This is her third double-double of the season.

What has been the most impressive for the Liberty is the fact that they have been able to beat two quality teams thus far, as they most recently had an 89-88 OT thriller over the Washington Mystics.
The road for the ladies is not going to get any easier as they continue their stretch against tough teams with a road trip to Las Vegas and taking on the Aces in a 10:00 p.m. game on June 29.
