Playing in front of a crowd of 30,615 at Yankee Stadium New York City FC and the Columbus Crew ended up their MLS match with a 1-1 draw.
NYCFC Head Coach Nick Cushing making some clutch subs as the squad’s match rolled on, calling upon players such as Kevin O’Toole, Stephen Turnbull, Gabe Segal, Richard Ledezma and Tavon Gray in the second half of play got themselves rewarded with a point, after seeing his squad put in a tremendous effort on Saturday afternoon.

To start the action Columbus was able to get themselves two opportunities on the net at the 6′ and 12 ‘ when Alexandru Matan and Cucho Hernández tried their chances.
From there the Boys in Blue were able to do a great job of possessing the soccer ball, keeping the attack going towards the Columbus net. The first great opportunity at the 33′ for NYCFC came off the foot of Talles Magno, that chance was saved by Patrick Schulte of the Crew.
Minutes later Hernández had himself a left footed shot that just missed the cage, as both squads tried for the first goal of the match.
Probably one of the better shots in the afternoon came around the 40′ when Magno tried for a right footed shot that soared over the Columbus net. Braian Cufré also had himself a wonderful chance around the 42′ prior to both squads heading into the lockers scoreless.
When they came out in the Second Half Magno got the action going quickly with an attempt that was saved at the 46′. Even though the Boys in Blue looked in tremendous form, the air got sucked out of Yankee Stadium when the Crew found the back of the cage thanks to a goal by Christian Ramírez in the 48′
It was around the 59′ when Coach Cushing made the subs that potentially helped to breath a new life into his squad as in the 73′ that was when Segal came onto the pitch and boy did, he make a difference.
In bringing back flashbacks from the team’s huge draw against Orlando City on May 17, the forward sped towards the goal in extra time and found the back of the net, tying the match up.
From there the time wound down quickly and both NYCFC and Columbus walked off the pitch with a 1-1 draw.
One of the other impressive performers in the match is the play of midfielder Justin Haak, as the midfielder had a passing average of 92.7% and won three possessions and one duel.
Even though there is a ton of frustration surrounding the squad, there is still a ton of positivity and hope especially with the window to add new players being just around the corner.
One of the tough things for the squad though is that now they go on the road for their next three matches. That all starts on Wednesday, June 21 at 7:30 p.m. against Atlanta United at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
