There are going to be a ton of emotions within the Entertainment and Sports Arena on Friday night, as Brittney Griner and the Phoenix Mercury are in town.
When it comes time for Griner, there is going to be a ton of love shown for the Center, as she has returned back to America from Russian detainment.
The Mystics who have been on a rough stretch in their own way have at times shown glimpses of their potential. There have been a ton of highs and lows for this squad, but still the spirits and the optimism are high.
With some of the top guards in the WNBA in Natasha Cloud, Brittney Sykes and Ariel Atkins along with Two-Time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne, it is just a matter of time and consistency for this squad.
Mystics fans are encouraged to check out the following video from the team’s shootaround session held on 6/16…compliments of the Washington Mystics:
Cloud thus far has played in nine games, put in 10.4 points, grabbing 3.2 rebounds and helping out on 5.9 assists. As for Sykes she has fit in with her new squad just fine recording 9.3 points and is ranked tied for 7th in the W with 4.9 rebounds and tied for third with 2.7 assists. Atkins, meanwhile, has 10.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and is tied for third with 2.8 assists.
Delle Donne is getting back her MVP form by having 18.4 points thus far, while also grabbing 6.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Thus far Delle Donne has been able to achieve a few milestones along the way and continues to find her voice as one of the leaders of the team.
One of the trends that the team has been able to maintain is the fact that they are ranked as the best team with their defensive play and thanks to their defensive efforts they have been able to get themselves to a 5-4 overall record.
Now it is just a matter of the team’s offensive effort finding that rhythm that made them so successful against teams such as New York and Seattle.
The stage is set for the Washington Mystics as they take on the Phoenix Mercury at 8:00 p.m. in WNBA action in Washington D.C.
