As the staff within the Entertainment and Sports Arena buzz about and get ready for the day. Members of the Washington Mystics are on the floor practicing and shooting around all preparing for the 7:00 p.m. tip against the New York Liberty.
As the ladies dribble their basketballs with sweat gleaming off their brows, getting the final touches on the rotations that will be seen throughout the 2023 WNBA Season, all continuing to gel and work together all in an effort to show the WNBA fans what the Washington Mystics are all about.
With the opener at the Entertainment and Sports Arena happening later in the day there is a ton to prove, especially as the Mystics are going up against what has now been dubbed as the WNBA’s Super Team in the New York Liberty.
As new eyes and audience all turn their way to the Washington D.C. area it is going to be the Mystics who are hoping to impress with their play.
After the team’s shootaround session earlier in the day the team’s two newest members chatted with the media about the impact that they hope to have on the 2023 edition of the Washington Mystics.
Amanda Zahui B and Li Meng are the newer faces to this Washington Mystics Club. Zahui B is a face that is well respected in the W, as she brings seven years of experience to the Washington D.C. Area
“It is finally gameday, it has been a long time coming and I think everyone is really excited,” said Zahui B. “I am personally excited to be back.”
1495 Sports is proud to bring the following video featuring thoughts from Zahui B. and Meng from the team’s shootaround session that was held this morning:
Most fans of the New York Liberty are familiar with Amanda and her Center play, as she spent the 2016-2020 season. There has been a lot that has changed for both the New York Liberty and Amanda as the roster has changed for the New York team and Amanda is getting used to a new system with the Washington Mystics.
Zahui B has played in 197 career games, averaging 6.2 points and 4.0 rebounds. Amanda is a true center and can play in the offensive style that have helped the Mystics dominate in the past decade.
As for Li Meng, this is her first season in the WNBA and the emotions and feelings that are there. There are so many adjustments that Meng is going to have to make, as the last time she saw action it was for the Shenyang Army Golden Lions.
Meng brings a ton of hype surrounding her style of play, as the Guard who shined in the 2022 FIBA World Cup hopes to translate that into the WNBA. Meng averaged 16.0 points per game (the fourth-highest in competition) while also having 40.7% from behind the 3-point arc.
These are just two of the names for fans to keep an eye out for as the Washington Mystics are hoping to have every player playing a vital role in the team’s first game against the New York Liberty.
There is going to be a ton of coverage here on 1495 Sports as the day progresses so we hope that fans will stay tuned for all that is in store.
