It has been an interesting stretch for the New York Mets (21-23) as they are currently in Third Place in the National League Standings.
There has been a ton of grumbling from those who are supporting the team, as many felt that the team has way more potential than what they have been showing as of late.
After the team lost three games to the Detroit Tigers, gaining only one victory against the Colorado Rockies, and one win against the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals; members of the Mets Management made a move that hopefully infuse a new life into the team.
Prior to the game on Wednesday Night the franchise made the call to Syracuse, New York to call up Mark Vientos, the team’s No. 7 prospect to Citi Field. There were some very difficult discussions that came with the move, as the team sent Luis Guillorme to Syracuse.
Guillorme , is a fan favorite, and not only that has been a steady hitter. Though as of late that hasn’t been the case as Luis has a .591 OPS to go along with a 67 OPS+ in 27 games.
Vientos, has been a red-hot batter for Syracuse, as he hit 13 homers going along with a 1.104 OPS in 38 games.
The move paid off as Vientos hit a game-tying two-run homer in the seventh inning.
It was an epic night on Wednesday, as for the most part it was the home-grown talent that helped to lead the way in the 8-7 victory. Not only did Vientos play a part, but catcher Francisco Alvarez blasted a game-tying three-run homer, that combined with Pete Alonso’s three-run homer sealed the Mets victory.
On the Mound pitcher Kodai Senga had himself the finest performance thus far, as he was able to keep one of the top American League teams in the Tampa Bay Rays guessing with a great mix of pitches.
Senga finished the game with a whopping 12 strikeouts in front of friends and family. In addition to being able to perform well in front of family members, the strikeout is a special one as Senga set a Mets record for Japanese-born pitchers.
The biggest question is how the Mets are going to respond after such an emotional night, as they are wrapping up a three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday prior to hosting the Cleveland Guardians for three games.
The finale between the Mets and Rays is set for 1:00 p.m. as Tylor Megill (4-2, 4.02 ERA, 31K) takes on Taj Bradley (3-0, 3.52 ERA, 23 K).
