Tough Derby Day for New York City FC as road woes Continue

With an electric atmosphere at Red Bull Arena New York City FC had gotten themselves off to a wonderful start, but ultimately fell to the New York Red Bulls with the final tally being 1-0.

NYCFC had all the momentum in the world, in addition the team did a wonderful job with building-up and combining. Even though the Boys in Blue led things in the statistical measure of the match, they were not able to gain the three points that they were hoping for.

In a twist of ironic fate helping to lead the New York Red Bulls to the victory was Bronx-Born Omir Fernandez as he found the back of the cage in the 76′ for the victory.

One of the trends for New York City FC is the fact that they seem to not have an edge when they get on the pitch. They are able to make wonderful moves towards the opposing team cage, but they are unable to finish.

New York City FC fans are encouraged to check out the following Post Match Press Conference featuring Head Coach Nick Cushing. Video is compliments of NYCFC:

In addition the team’s defense made some costly turnovers in their own zone that ultimately cost them the game as well.
When New York City FC is able to fix these that is when they can start to claim more points.

The good news for the fans of the franchise though is the fact that they seem to be playing with a lot more confidence when they are on the road. Not only that but they are starting to shine in several statistical categories.

NYCFC was able to have a 68.5 Possession % to go along with 637 passes, in addition their passing accuracy is an amazing 85.6%. The Boys in Blue also won the Duels advantage in having 56.

There were also several brilliant chances from both Gabriel Pereira and Talles Magno.

Ultimately it was the New York Red Bulls, who are now under the helm of new Head Coach Troy Lesesne, that were able to paint the town red.

Thus far things have looked great for the Red Bulls with Coach Troy at the helm, as they were able to win the first game with him at the helm. That match was a 1-0 decision over D.C. United in U.S. Open Cup play.

Also tallying the goal in that match was Fernandez, as he will forever have his name etched amongst those who have been able to tally a goal in the Hudson River Derby.

The biggest question for those who support New York City FC is how they can translate the work that they are doing both on and off the pitch to those road matches that they are playing in.

There is a lot of pressure not only on Head Coach Cushing and the rest of the squad to start to get results. The Boys in Blue are going to get another crack at getting a victory on the road as they head to Orlando to take on Orlando City SC in Exploria Stadium on May 17. The Start of that match is set for 7:30 p.m.

As for the Red Bulls the question is can they turn their fate around with Coach Troy at the helm. Thus far they are 2-0 with their new Head Coach but are going to have a true test when they go on the road to take on Toronto. That match is also scheduled for May 17 with the start at 7:30 p.m.
