Gotham FC Earns 1-1 Draw against the Courage in NWSL Challenge Cup action

Showing great effort and heart throughout the night the ladies of Gotham FC earned a 1-1 draw against the North Carolina Courage in UKG Challenge Cup action on Wednesday.

It was a tale of two halves, as it was in the second that Lynn Williams tied the night up. Williams has been playing phenomenal soccer as of late, as most recently she was named to the NWSL Best XI of the Month. Being put into the match later on in the night, Lynn made sure to make an impact by getting a goal in the 74th minute, as she netted in a pass from Jenna Nighswonger.

The goal for Williams is the fifth so far in the seven competitions that she has played, and boy has she been impressive in the matches that she has been in with Gotham FC.

“We were more aggressive along the front foot. We were not going to settle for a loss,” Williams said about her club’s determination in the second half. “Our focus is on concentrating and on executing the game plan. We’ve had a lot of games in a short time and a lot of travel. The more we can make the ball do the work, the fresher we can be.”

There were so many stars in the match against the Courage, and one is the play of goalkeeper Michelle Betos as she made some brilliant saves throughout the night.

Gotham FC fans can check out what Betos along with Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós had to say on the match by checking out the video below…compliments of Gotham FC:

Up next for the ladies as they continue their road stretch is the return of regular season play, as they take on the Chicago Red Stars on Sunday, May 7 at 6 p.m.
