Gotham FC has record-breaking day in victory over Orlando

It was a heck of a rebounding performance for Gotham FC as they were able to get a 2-0 result over the Orlando Pride on Saturday Night.

Exploria Stadium had themselves a treat of a soccer match, as the two teams played a stellar brand of soccer showing a great defensive effort in keeping the other scoreless in the First Half of play.

It was in the Second Half that Gotham FC was awarded a penalty kick and Midge Purce cashed in, as she was able to to get the ball into the top right corner of the net.

Purce shares her thoughts on scoring the penalty in addition to wearing the Captains Armband and lots more:

Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós shares these thoughts:

Gotham FC has fared well when it comes time for their penalty opportunities as they have goals in their last six.

That tally is going to go down in the team’s record books, as that is the latest to be recorded in a match in NWSL history. The ladies were able to add onto their lead seven minutes later and made history yet again with the goal by Lynn Williams who got a beauty of a pass from Purce for the second goal of the night.

Williams is in the NWSL history books twice in having a goal in the later stages in the game, as she also was able to tally a goal in the 124th minute for Western New York Flash against Washington Spirit in the 2016 final match.

Lynn shared these thoughts on being a part of NWSL history:

Williams’ goal is the 59th of her NWSL career. Thus far she is tied with Christine Sinclair for second-most in NWSL history.

In the cage for Gotham FC Abby Smith made several key saves, including two early on that kept Orlando scoreless. Smith has been very impressive thus far in the times that she has started for Head Coach Amorós.

Thus far the momentum is a positive one for Gotham FC as they currently hold a 2-0-1 record, meanwhile the Orlando Pride have a 0-0-3 mark, It is going to be a tough test for the ladies when they return to Red Bull Arena on Wednesday as they take on the Washington Spirit.

The match between Gotham FC and the Washington Spirit is set for 7:30 p.m.
