Brooklyn Cyclones Walk Away Winners in Home Opener Thriller

Showing a true grit and tenacity the Brooklyn Cyclones got themselves the Home Opening victory 9-8, as it took extra innings to defeat the Jersey Shore Blue Claws on Friday.


Leading the way for the Cyclones was Joe Suozzi, who had a 3-for-5 day at the dish to go along with an RBI in addition Cesar Berbesi had a 2-for-4 afternoon in addition to three RBI.


On the mound Wilkin Ramos (1-0) is in the record books with the victory thanks to keeping the Blue Claws scoreless in the top of the 11th Inning.


The visitors were able to get the early lead as things got off to a rocky start for the Cyclones. Jerey Shore’s Casey Martin was essential to the team gaining the lead, thanks to a two-out RBI single.

Brooklyn got into the game thanks to Jaylen Palmer making great contact in the bottom of the second. Cesar Berbesi was able to plate in a run and later on in the game Kevin Kendall added and RBI to make the game 4-2.


The score was tied up in the Bottom of the third when Kevin Parada recorded his first hit. It was later on in the action when Berbesi hit a laser to right center field to score two runs and made the score 4-4.


Things stayed that way until the sixth inning when the Blue Claws regained the lead thanks to a two-out double from Leandro Pineda.


These two teams put on one heck of an Opening Day game, as Brooklyn rallied thanks to Palmer and him playing small ball, as the Brooklyn-native worked a walk and stole second base.


With things all tied up, the score wouldn’t stay that way for very long as Jersey Shore regained their led. The Cyclones would not back down from the fight though as in the bottom of the ninth Suozzi found a hole in center field to get the action going.


Palmer had himself a heck of an at-bat in that frame seeing nine-itches to force in the run and tying up the score once again.
Brooklyn once again played small ball in the bottom of the 11th Inning. It was Chase Estep, who wound up the hero of the game thanks to a great eye in working the walk and plating home the winning run.


The Cyclones and the Blue Claws will be in action on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. It will be Cyclones starter Dylan Tebrake taking on Gunner Mayer for Jersey Shore.
