Though it is early in the season the New York Mets (3-1) were able to rebound in style, getting two victories at loanDepot Park thanks to a 5-1 score over the Marlins on Sunday and a 6-2 final on Saturday.
Leading the way for New York on Saturday was Mark Canha, who had a three-hit day, that included a homer, three runs score and two RBIs. On the mound Tylor Megill had his best stuff striking out seven batters in five innings of work.
Also contributing in the game on Saturday was Pete Alonso who drove in a run and Omar Narvaez plating two runs.
On Sunday it was the much-anticipated debut of Kodai Senga, who was a ball of energy prior to throwing out his first pitch.
Senga was seen in the dugout trying to keep loose, was at first a tad rocky, but he and his ghost forkball, which will be soon talked about all throughout MLB made themselves right at home.
Senga, who worked out of a rough first inning, wound up with eight strikeouts all on his specialty pitch in helping to lead the Mets to their first season victory of the year.
As for the offense it was wham, bam thank you Pham, as Tommy Pham, who got the nod in the leadoff position, paid immediate dividends.
Pham making solid contact throughout the game, got on base four times, including a two-run shot, as he was the player of the game for New York.
One of the cool things about the Mets roster is the fact that Tim Locastro is a part of the team. Locastro, who hails from Auburn, New York, went to college at Ithaca and is a feel good story of someone from the New York area making the team.
Up next for the Mets will be a road trip to Milwaukee as they will take on the Brewers for a three-game series. Starting on Game One for New York will be Carlos Carrasco taking on Freddy Peralta.
Carrasco has been able to make four starts during the spring exhibition, three were at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie. In those games Carrasco had a 4.15 ERA in 13.0 Innings pitched.
Cookie has always pitched well for New York, as during the 2022 season he had a 3.97 ERA, while ranking fifth in the National League in wins with 15 and 10th in win percentage .628. The pitches to watch for when it comes time for Carrasco will be his slider and changeup, as they have a 35.5 and 31.6 whiff percentage and a 26.2 and 21.8 put away percentage, respectively.
The first pitch between the Mets and the Brewers is set for 2:10 p.m. with fans wanting to catch the action can do so on the SNY Network.
