Washington Spirit Players get the Call to National Team

One of the highest honors that an athlete can get is the opportunity to represent their country. Two members of the Washington Spirit will have that opportunity.

First to get the call is defender Gabrielle Carle who got the call to the Canadian Women’s National Team.

Carle, who is on a two-year contract with the Spirit, has been able to represent Canada before as she has played in 30 matches. That includes time in the FIFA Women’s World Cup match that was played in 2019. Carle had an alternate spot during the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021, while also making her debut in the Canadian national youth program in 2013 at 14 years old.

The Canadian Women’s National Team will have a chance to play France in a friendly matchup in Le Mans France on April 11.

Later on in the week Riley Tanner was able to get the call to the Panama Women’s National Football Team.

Tanner, who was the 30th overall pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft, is also under a two-year contract with the Spirit. Riley has been able to represent the Panama National Team three times now, and has fared very well in her time with the squad.

Panama will have an opportunity to play an international friendly against the Dominical Republic on April 6.

As for the rest of the Washington Spirit the ladies will be on the road to take on Racing Louisville at Lynn Family Stadium on April 1. The start of the action between these two squads is set for 3:00 p.m.
