Fans who are hoping to see the future prospects of the New York Mets can do so this summer, by visiting Maimonides Park and checking out the Brooklyn Cyclones.
The franchise who is getting ready for the 2023 South Atlantic League Season just set their roster, which is filled with the future stars of Queens.
There will be five Top 30 Mets prospects on the team (that is according to MLB.com), including 2022 first-round selection C Kevin Parada (No 3), to go along with second-round selection RHP Blade Tidwell,
Fans can also have an opportunity to see outfielder Alex Ramírez as well. Overall, the team is set to have 31 on the team, and that includes 17 pitchers, three catchers, six infielder and five outfielders.
All of the action for the squad will start on Opening Day, which will take place on April 7 at Maimonides Park, with First Pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
There will be a ton of guys who will have previous experience, as veterans from the team’s second-half North Division championship squad will return to the field. That list includes Ramirez, Stanley Consuegra, William Lugo, and Joe Suozzi who hope to continue their development with the team.
On the mound fans will have a chance to see Jeffrey Colón, Trey McLoughlin, Daniel Juárez and Nathan Lavender continue their fine pitching performances in Brooklyn.
Also returning back to the squad will be Bahamas native Warren Saunders, along with catcher Oscar
Campos. Campos appeared in eight games with the club in 2021 and will be clutch in helping to navigating the games.
One of the other returning players fans can get hyped about is Quinn Brodey, who led the 2017 squad in RBI (54) as an outfielder.
In addition, there will be 17 members of last summer’s 2022 Florida State League Champion St. Lucie Mets features on this years team. Starting with Parada, who is Minor League Baseball’s No. 36 prospect -per MLB.com. In addition, outfielder Omar De Los Santos will be on the field. De Los Santos is the minors third-leading base stealer (70) in 2022.
Making their debut with the Cyclones will be a pair of righty’s in Cameron Foster and Wilkin Ramos. Foster was selected by the Mets with their 14th pick and is hoping to impress the fans of New York, as for Ramos he will be entering into a new market, as he was chosen by the franchise from the Pittsburgh Pirates in the minor league phase of the past winters Rule 5 draft.
At the helm of the squad will be Chris Newell, who is in his second-straight year as the manager, and he has himself a great staff with him. Bronx native Richie Benes is returning as the hitting coach, Victor Ramos will be the pitching coach, while Juan Loyo is now the team’s development coach.
Fans can see the Cyclones in action on April 7 as they have a three-game set against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, who are the High-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The action is set for 1:00 p.m.
