Fordham University (11-14) has been able to see many various situations as of late, earning victories from many teams including a huge victory over Seton Hall.
The most recent victory for the Rams will be one to remember, as Sebastian Mexico was able to hit a grand slam home run in the fifth inning was the cap to a 5-3 comeback victory over Hartford at Houlihan Park.
It was a tight contest as both teams were unable to plate a run through three frames. That was right before the Hawks hustled into the first run into the game. Playing some great small ball and getting some luck thanks to Fordham miscues led them to a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning.
It was in the fifth inning that the Rams were able to find an answer as back-to-back-to-back singles by Daniel Bucciero, Peter DeMaria and Will Findlay set the stage. It was one batter later that Ryan Rockhill worked a bases loaded walk to drive in the first run for the Rams.
As Mexico walked to the plate the stage was set, and the at bat was one for the memory books, as the sophomore eventually found the ball that he had wanted and blasted the ball over the right field wall fence. That was the first home run of the season for Mexico, along with the third grand slam by the Rams in the last week.
Mexico shares these thoughts about the Grand Slam and the game against Hartford:
The Fordham bullpen was able to step up from there as Nolan Hughes, William Simeone and Ben Kovel shut down the Hartford offense. Hughes (1-2) was able to earn his first victory thanks to 2.2 innings of relief in sitting down four batters.
