After multiple sessions down in Florida, there are a ton of emotions for the fans and the players on the Gotham FC roster, as the countdown is on for their season opening game in Los Angles.
Brining a blend of players who are newer along with key veterans, Gotham FC hopes to be amongst one of the top teams for not only this year, but for years to come.
One of the more intriguing storylines for Gotham FC was just announced recently as one of the more iconic U.S. Women’s National Team and National Women’s Soccer League defender Ali Krieger announced her retirement.
“I see the 2023 season as an opportunity to celebrate with our fans and my fellow players, but make no mistake – my entire focus is on winning the NWSL championship with Gotham FC,” said Krieger. “In a career filled with blessings, the NWSL title is one of the only trophies I still have yet to win. I’ve worked really hard to get to this point. I’ve always been inspired by winning, competing, and a desire to be the best, and this will be my last chance to win a championship. I’m determined to work with my teammates to make this final goal a reality. To achieve this before our incredible Gotham FC fans will motivate me every day this season.”
Krieger has made 108 appearances for the USWNT and is a member fo three FIFA Women’s World Cup Teams during the 2011, 2015, 2019 seasons. In addition to that Krieger also was on the Washington Spirit and Orlando Pride rosters.
Fans can hear from Krieger along with General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West, followed by Gotham FC head coach Juan Carlos Amorós by clicking on the link below. Video compliments of Gotham FC:
It will be fascinating to see how Gotham FC will be able to balance brining not only attention to themselves and their team, but also how to properly pay homage to Kreiger, who is an icon in the world of soccer.
First up though the team’s full focus is on March 26, when they take on Angel City at BMO Stadium. There is a bit of a rivalry building between these two NWSL teams, so it will be interesting to see the style of play on that day, not only that but how Gotham FC is going to be able to balance the styles of plays and players that are on their roster.
In helping the team building their brand and what they are able to bring to the pitch, the team announced on Instagram that they are going to have a watch party in the Brooklyn area on Sunday. For all hoping to see the first match with fellow Gotham FC fans are encouraged to head to Crystal Lake on 647 Grand Street at 9:00 p.m. so that way one can catch all of the action.
The countdown is on and the excitement builds as Gotham FC and their fans are getting ready for that first match of the NWSL Season.
