In what was a spicy night at Yankee Stadium New York City FC was able to defeat D.C. United by a score of 3-2. For the Boys in Blue this was the second consecutive victory this season, in addition to their 11th against the visiting side.

While it is still early in the season, one of the players who has impressed on the pitch has been Santiago Rodriguez, who showed a great style of play in both the Inter Miami and the most recent match. The midfielder was rewarded for his efforts in the match vs D.C. United with his first goal of the season.

Rodriguez compiled some impressive numbers having 27 accurate passes (93%), five of them going into the final third portion of the field and one total shot. Another impressive stat is the fact that Santi has been able to have a goal and an assist for the third time in his career, in addition that is also a first since the September 17th match of the 2022 season.

New York City FC fans are encouraged to check out the video below to see what Head Coach Nick Cushing had to say about the match-video compliments of New York City FC:

The night of first continued for the Boys in Blue as they were able to see goals from Talles Magno, who recorded his first goal in addition Thiago Andrade also had his first.

As for D.C. United they were able to see goals from Steve Birnbaum and Christian Benteke. For Benteke he was able to have his second goal of the season while playing for the black and red. As for Birnbaum the goal in the 90th minute was the 13th of his career.

In addition, fans of the Black and Red were able to see the debut of Jacob Greene, who is going to be a part of the teams defensive unit as the MLS season progresses. The defensive unit also saw an appearance by Matai Akinmboni, the duo are both homegrown players for D.C. United and it will be fascinating to see how they can contribute to the team’s play as the season progresses.

Getting back to the Boys in Blue Magno has been a huge part of the team’s success, as over the course of the 2022 Regular season and the MLS Cup Playoffs, the forward has been able to tally eight goals and eight assists.

It was huge to see Andrade being able to find a scoring tough, as the goal was the first since Augst 14 of the 2022 Regular Season. For the team to have continued success Thiago is going to be a huge part of that and hopefully the match against D.C. United will get him going.

Thus far NYCFC has played very well at Yankee Stadium, as they were able to extend their unbeaten streak in the Bronx. The tough part for the squad will be winning on the road and they will have to try to figure that out quickly as they will be taking on Houston in their home turf of Shell Energy Stadium.

The good news though for the fans of New York City FC is that the team is starting to play the style of soccer that has made them MLS Cup contenders and they are hoping to continue to play that style on March 25 when they take on the Dynamo.
