With the 2023 NWSL season just around the corner, there is a ton of excitement that is building for Gotham FC.
One of the many reasons why the fans of the team are excited is the fact that one of the brightest stars on the team Margaret ‘Midge’ Purce has joined a multi-year contract with the club. Purce, who not only shined in the NY/NJ area but also for the U.S. Women’s National Team will be with the team for the 2024 season, in addition with an option for 2025.
“I’m excited to be a part of the vision to build Gotham into one of the greatest clubs in the world,” said Purce.
Purce has been a star with the USWNT roster, who won the SheBelieves Cup in February, in addition to playing in two international friendlies in New Zeland in January. In the time that she has been able to play for the USWNT, she has been able to score four goals and three assists in 23 matches.
After being traded by the Portland Thorns in the 2020 season, Purce has been a leader both on and off the pitch for Gotham FC. It was in the 2021 season that fans started to notice the forward, as she was able to have nine goals, while finishing second in the NWSL’s Golden Boot race. In addition, Purce was able to be a finalist for the NWSL MVP and was listed to the NWSL Best XI.
“This new contract for Midge is another step towards shaping Gotham FC for the present and the future,” said Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós. “Midge is an outstanding player with the ability to make the difference in the final third. Her long-term commitment to the club shows that she believes in the project we are building. Midge is a player I am excited to work with and to help continue maximize her full potential.”
Purce in addition to Yazmeen Ryan, Ifeoma Onumonu , and Imani Dorsey all shared their thoughts to the members of the New York Media in order to get the fans excited for the 2023 NWSL Season. Gotham FC fans are encouraged to check out their thoughts seen here-video compliments of Gotham FC
