Under sunny skies and world class facilities the members of Gotham FC all piled together to start training for the 2023 NWSL Season. With a mix of veterans and up and coming stars the team looks to see what type of connections thaty can build in the coming weeks.
“Being able to come outside on a full-sized pitch on grass is amazing,” said defender Kristen Edmonds. “Coach Juan has us running drills and it has been a lot of fun so far, we are on that grind.”
Coach Juan Carlos Amoros had the team weightlifting and starting to train early just to get the ladies in tip top shape, so that they can start to impress the fans of New York and New Jersey once the NWSL Season starts.

“I think in the week ahead as a club and as a team we want to take care of every detail and coming to a facility like this, we are able to be fully focused on the task at hand,” said Coach Amoros. “IMG Academy is a fantastic pitch and we also have great food for our athletes to eat, and thus far everyone behind the scenes has done a great job of being able to take care of the athletes. Finally, we are here, it has been a long wait and there has been a ton of work done to get the team ready for this moment. To be able to see everyone is great, so far I like our mix of veterans and upcomers and we are hoping to build a connection between them.”
Thus far Gotham FC is preparing for their first closed door scrimmage, which will happen next week. That is when they take on the Orlando Pride on February 18, prior to taking on Florida State University and the Chicago Red Stars on March 2.
“It is amazing first off to be in the warm weather in Florida,” said defender Ali Kreiger. ” I couldn’t be happier, the facilities are great; the villas, the hotel, everything is great. So far, we are getting a bit of team comradery, and everything is top notch. It is really world class here, you feel like a pro and that is what is so exciting, that you can apply what we are doing here to the training, and I think we are going to be really successful.”
