The Battle for Long Island will be renewed as Hofstra University will take on Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon, as they will renew a rivalry but now as a part of the Colonial Athletic Association. The game on Saturday will be Hofstra’s Winter Homecoming and will feature a Winter White Out as the first 1,500 fans getting a “Long Island Rivalry” shirt.

The game between Hofstra and Stony Brook will be played at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex and is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Hofstra enters into the game, winners of four games in in a row and for the eighth time in the last nine contest were able to get a 76-72 victory over Towson on Thursday evening. The victory over Towson avenged the Pride’s lone loss since January 1.

Helping to lead Hofstra in the victory was Aaron Estrada who had 27 points and eight rebounds to go along with Tyler Thomas who had 20 points. Bryce Washington also had an outstanding night with his 12 points on a four three-point performance night.

Hofstra enters into the game with a 16-8 overall record and a 9-2 CAA Mark, thus far the Pride is tied for first in the Conference Standings.

Stony Brook, meanwhile, has a 8-15 mark in addition to a 4-6 mark in the Colonial Athletic Conference, as they had a 69-55 loss to Elon on Thursday. Toby Onyekonwu led the Seawolves with 14 points, while Frankie Policelli had 13 points and seven rebounds.

The meeting on Saturday will renew a rivalry between Hofstra and Stony Brook, as this will be the 31st all-time meeting between the two Colleges. Hofstra leads the series by a mark of 24-6. Hofstra thus far has been able to win five of the last six in the series, that includes a 72-67 victory over Stony Brook in the team’s last meeting in Hempstead that was played in 2020.
