In what was a nailbiter at the Scotiabank Center, the Albany FireWolves (2-2) were able to come back and defeated the Halifax Thunderbirds (3-2) by a score of 11-10. It was an action packed back-and-forth night as the FireWolves were able to tie things up late and thanks to the heroics of Kieran McCardle won the game.
Halifax was able to get on the scoreboard early when Colton Armstrong beated Doug Jamieson for the first goal of the night. Albany was able to strike back quickly when Ethan Walker found the back of the cage. It was an exciting and hard hit style of play for both as they thrilled the fans in Canada with their style of play.
The FireWolves were able to find their second goal of the game as Colton Watkinson had a breakaway opportunity and was able to cash in. Albany continued their momentum and were able to gain the lead thanks to a goal by Justin Scott.
Chris Boushy helped the Thunderbirds regain the lead, as he was able to catch a pass just outside the crease and finished his opportunity with a flourish. Albany fought back though thanks to a goal by John Piatelli.
Albany started to get on a roll thanks to a Jackson Nishimura goal which was able to make the score 5-3, in addition to that McCardle added another to maintain the FireWolves momentum. It was punch and counter punch though as the Thunderbirds struck back thanks to a goals by Austin Shanks and Eric Fannell got the home team to within a goal.
In the Fourth Quarter the two teams continued their amazing style of play both finding the back of the cage. Albany remained in the game thanks to a goal by Tanner Thomson. Later on in the action McArdle was able to record a hat trick thanks to a great pass from Nishimura.
With time ticking off and Albany just needing one goal to get themselves back into it, they were able to get a response thanks to Walker, who was able to tie the game at 10 and helped send the two teams into overtime. It was in the overtime frame that the FireWolves were able to strike quickly as McArdle had his fourth of the night, which turned out to be the game-winner.
