One of the rising stars in the world of soccer Tyler Adams has been voted as the 2022 BioSteel U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year. Thus far Adams has been able to captain the U.S. Men’s National team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, that helped to cap an amazing year for the team. Tyler, who has been selected by his teammates to be the Captain of the Club in Qatar.
Thus far the midfielder has been able to lead the USMNT in minutes played this year, and had been featured in every minute of the USA’s successful World Cup run, while also winning the DFB-Pokal with RBI Leipzig in addition to making a huge impact since joining the English Premier League.
This is the third nomination for Adam, as he now joins a long list of USMNT stars who have won a U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year.
“Receiving this type of recognition is certainly special, but for me the team’s success is the most important thing,” Adams said. “Having the experience of going to the World Cup, performing well as a group and moving the sport forward in the United States was super important to me this year, and I couldn’t have done it without my teammates.”
Adams has been a critical part to the USMT’s success has he has brought a ton of electricity and heart to the squad. Thanks to his enthusiastic play he has been able to earn Man of the Match honors in USA’s first two games. Adams is the youngest captain at the tournament and the youngest USMNT captain at the World Cup since 1950.
There are a ton of accolades to Adam’s name that includes him being on e of the three players to play every minute in Qatar. During the match versus the Netherland Adams became the youngest U.S. captain ever in a World Cup Knockout Round match.
First awarded in 1984, there have been 26 players who have been awarded with the U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year Award. The list includes current U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Earnie Stewart, who won it in 2001 . Landon Donovan holds the record for the most awards, as he has won it four times, while Clint Dempsey has been able to win the award on three occasions. Christian Pulisic won the award in 2017, and at the time was the younger player to win the award.
