It will be an epic clash as Kim Clavel will take on WBA queen Jessica Nery Plata on Friday January 13 at Place Bell in Laval, Canada. Clavel is looking to become the sports only Canadian born unified world champion.
Clavel (16-0, 3KO) won the Pat Tilman Award for Service at the 2020 ESPY Awards and was able to do so after putting the boxing career on hold to return to nursing. Kim was able to make an epic comeback in July shutting out Natalie Gonzalez as the two clashed in eight rounds inside the MGM Grand Bubble. Clavel dominated long-reigning champion Yesenia Gomzez last July to win the WBC Title and has ben able to seize the first title opportunity.
These two ladies were scheduled to fight in December, but Clavel had to withdraw with with the flu. Plata (28-2, 3KOs) who hails from Mexico City, won the world title match last March with a split decision over Argentina’s Yesica Bopp.
This action packed boxing card includes fighters such as
- Maxium Akeniz (17-0, 8KOs) who will defend the WBC Continental Americas 140-pound belt against Mexican veteran Cristian Bielma (19-4-2, 7 KOs) in a 10 rounder
- Welterweight prospect Marie Pier Houle (7-0-1, 2 KOs) is looking to extend a winning streak to six in a bout versus Mariso Moreno in what will be an eight-round battle
- Rising star Eric Basran (2-0, 1 KO) will go up against Juan Carlos Ramirez Garcia (4-2) in a six-round lightweight tilt.
- Prospect Caroline Veyre (1-0) who represented Canada at the Tokyo Olympics, is looking to make her second fight against Estefania Gonzalez Franco in a six -round battle.
