Hofstra Wins their Third Consecutive Game over Monmouth, 77-57

Hofstra University had a 13-0 run as they were able to soar in a 77-57 victory over Monmouth at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Helping to lead the way was Warren Williams who had a season-high 18 points to help leading the Pride in scoring, to go along with Tyler Thomas who had 18 points and helped Hofstra extend their winning streak to three games.

The Pride was able to get their record to 11-7 overall and 4-1 in the CAA, while Monmouth falls to 1-16 overall and 0-4 in league action. The Hawks have had a tough stretch losing eight consecutive games.

Williams had himself an outstanding showing as he was able to grab seven rebounds and two blocked shots, in addition Hofstra was able to see fine performances from Jaquan Carlos and Aaron Estrada who had 12 points each 

Hofstra was able to gain a lead 4-2, in the early going prior to a 8-0 run from Monmouth prompted a timeout with 15:49 on the clock.The Pride roared with four unanswered goals on baskets from Williams and Nelson Boachie-Yiadom before Monmouth answered with five straight that increased the lead 15-8 with 12:24 left in the game. 

The Pride netted in six consecutive points to tie the score with 8;33 to go on Thomas’ fall-away baseline-jumper. German Plotnikov’s three-pointer was able to increase the Hofstra lead to 21-28.  Thomas and Amare’Marshal helped to extend the lead to 25-18 and the run to 13-0.

Monmouth fought back though when Estrada drained a three-pointer to put Hofstra back up by six, 28-22 with 4:18 remaining. Things went back and forth as the Pride regained the lead as they were able to take a 36-26 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the locker room Hofstra was able to score nine straight points, as they were able to extend the lead to 45-26 on Thomas’ jumper with 15:35 remaining. Jack Collins were able to net a three-pointer to help lead the Hawks. Tahron Allen scored with another basket to make the lead to 14, 45-31. Monmouth would not be able to get closer than 10 the rest of the game.
