St. John’s Women’s Basketball shooting guard Jayla Everett earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced on Monday.
The redshirt senior averaged 18.5 points over two games this past week, highlighted by an explosive 26-point performance against Xavier on Sunday. Everett shot 8-for-11 from the floor and 8-for-10 from the charity stripe to lead the Red Storm to a 71-52 victory.
Everett’s standout performance against Xavier was the highest scoring total by a Red Storm player this season. The 26 points were the most the redshirt senior has had in a game since her career-high 34 on Dec. 19, 2019, against Loyola Marymount, while at New Mexico. Sunday’s scoring onslaught marked just the third time in her career she has exceeded the 25-point threshold and the first since the 2019-20 season, as a member of the Lobos.
Everett scored 12 of the Johnnies 14 first quarter points, including cashing in on her first seven field goal attempts of the game at Carnesecca Arena.
On Jan. 4, Everett finished with 11 points in the road loss to Seton Hall. The standout has finished in double-figures in every game she has appeared in this season.
On the year, the St. Louis, Mo., native averages a team-high 17.3 points per game, which ranks top-5 in the conference. During league play, the guard has recorded an impressive 19.6 points per game and shooting 43.8 percent from beyond-the-arc.
Everett is no stranger to the honor roll, as the squad’s leading scorer has now been tabbed four times by the league office.
The Johnnies will be back on the hardwood for a match-up with No. 5 UConn on Wednesday night at UBS Arena.
