Hofstra redshirt senior Aaron Estrada was named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Player of the Week and Pride redshirt freshman Amar’e Marshall earned his second consecutive CAA Rookie of the Week honor, it was announced today by the league office.
Estrada shared the award with Ryan Larson of Charleston.
The duo led Hofstra to a 2-1 week, including wins over George Washington and San Jose State that extended the season-opening win streak to four games.
Estrada averaged 25.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game over the three contests. He poured in a team-high 33 points on 12-18 shooting from the field in the win over George Washington. He had six three-pointers in the game and also added five rebounds and four assists. In the victory over San Jose State he had another strong outing with 27 points, five assists, and three rebounds. He shot 7-12 from the field, hit five three-pointers, and was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line. In the Pride’s final game of the week he led the team with 16 points and added four rebounds against Saint Mary’s. For the week he shot a robust 57.4% from the field, 50% from three-point range, and 84.6% from the free throw line. He also played every minute versus George Washington and San Jose State and nearly 35 minutes against Saint Mary’s.
Marshall had a solid week for the Pride, averaging 6.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. He had six points, including 2-2 from three-point range, in the win over George Washington. Against San Jose State, he had nine points and four rebounds. He finished the week with five points and two rebounds against Saint Mary’s.
