Hofstra is coming off a thrilling 83-77 win over Princeton in its season opener on Monday. Redshirt senior Aaron Estrada was electric with 27 points, on 12-19 shooting, along with five assists and four rebounds. Sophomore Darlinstone Dubar added his second career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore Jaquan Carlos had a pair of huge buckets among his eight points and three assists. Sophomore Amar’e Marshall saw the first action of his career and was second on the team with 15 points.
Similar to Hofstra, Iona also faced one of the favorites in the Ivy League and came away with a 78-50 victory over Penn on Monday. Daniss Jenkins led four Gaels in double figures with 19 points, while Nelly Joseph had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Iona.
The series between Hofstra and Iona has been incredibly close over the years with the Gaels holding a slight 22-20 lead in the 42 all-time meetings. The series began in the 1946-47 season with a 65-53 Hofstra win, while Iona won last season’s meeting in New Rochelle by the score of 82-74.
The Pride and the Gaels met in Hempstead during the 2020-21 season without fans in attendance, so this will mark the first time the Mack Sports Complex hosts this exciting match-up with fans permitted since 4,258 were in attendance for an 83-75 Pride win on December 29, 2011.
