Hofstra Men’s Basketball Tips Off 2022-23 Season On Monday At Princeton

The Hofstra Men’s Basketball team will get the 2022-23 season underway on Monday when it travels to New Jersey to take on Princeton.

Tip-off from Jadwin Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The game will air on ESPN+ and WRHU (88.7 FM) will have an audio only broadcast available on the HAWC. Links to both can be found on this page as well as on the men’s basketball schedule page at GoHofstra.com.

Hofstra is coming off a solid 21-11 season in 2021-22 as the Speedy Claxton era got off to a strong start. The Pride will look to continue the positive momentum as they get year two of the Claxton era underway. Hofstra was also 13-5 in Colonial Athletic Association play.

The Pride was picked second in the preseason CAA Coaches Poll and redshirt senior Aaron Estrada was chosen as the preseason CAA Player of the Year, while sophomore Darlinstone Dubar earned preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention honors.

Princeton went 23-7 overall a year ago and 12-2 in the Ivy League. Similar to Hofstra, the Tigers were also picked second in their conference’s preseason poll.

This will be the eighth all-time meeting between Hofstra and Princeton with the Pride leading the series, 4-3. The teams first met in the second game of the 1955-56 season with Hofstra capturing a 69-60 road win over the Tigers. Hofstra won last season’s meeting in Hempstead by the score of 81-77 with Aaron Estrada scoring 20 points to lead the way. Princeton’s last win in the series was a 54-42 win in 1991-92. Both programs are connected by a former head coach as Butch van Breda Kolff led each programs at one time. van Breda Kolff was the head coach at Hofstra from 1955-62 and again from 1988-94 and led Princeton from 1962-67.
