Four recipients were surprised with U.S. Army Minutemen Scholarships on-field at the New York Jets Salute to Service themed game against the Buffalo Bills.
The recipients – Sad’e Webb, Faustina Afrim, Aakash Sood, and Chamiqua Loswijk – will have full tuition and fees covered at their prospective universities served by an Army (ROTC) program. These scholarship recipients also receive a yearly book allowance of $1,200 and a monthly stipend of $420 while attending school enrolled in the ROTC program. After graduation and commissioning, scholarship recipients are guaranteed placement in the Army Reserve.
Webb will attend St. John’s University, and Afrim will attend SUNY Stony Brook or Binghamton. Both will be placed in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Sood and Loswijk will be placed in the U.S. Army National Guard. Sood will attend Rutgers University, while Loswijk will attend CUNY York College.
All scholarship recipients met baseline requirements (including U.S. citizenship, an acceptance letter to a college or university with an ROTC program, etc.) and went through an extensive interview process. To date, the U.S. Army has given over $70 million in scholarships.
