Hofstra Guard Estrada Named Preseason CAA Player Of The Year; Pride Picked Second

Hofstra University redshirt senior Aaron Estrada was named the Preseason Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and the Pride was picked second in the preseason CAA Coaches poll, released recently during the conference’s media day. 

Estrada also earned All-CAA Preseason First Team accolades, while sophomore Darlinstone Dubar garnered a spot on the All-CAA Preseason Honorable Mention Team. 

The Pride was picked behind Towson in the poll and followed by Delaware, Charleston, UNCW, Northeastern, Drexel, William & Mary, Stony Brook, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, Elon, and Hampton. 

Estrada is coming off a tremendous 2021-22 season in which he was the CAA Player of the Year, an All-CAA First Team selection, Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American, along with a slew of other honors. He started all 32 games and averaged 18.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.2 blocks per contest. He led Hofstra and the conference in scoring, while also leading the team in assists, steals, and minutes. 

Dubar played in all 32 games a season ago and made 31 starts, while averaging 11.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game. He ranked third on the team in scoring, fourth in three-point field goals made, third in rebounds, fourth in assists, and first in blocks. He scored in double figures 23 times and tallied 20 or more points on a pair of occasions. 

The Pride will get the 2022-23 season underway on Monday, November 7 when it travels to Princeton for a 7:30 p.m. game
