A point is a point, but one couldn’t help walking away from Audi Field and wondering could D.C. United have won their match against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night. The Black and Red had a ton of pluses but ultimately were not able to find the back of the net.
D.C. United had most of the possession of the ball in the First Half of play, as they were able to have some brilliant passing along with great cohesion and chemistry. Helping to lead the way in the first five minutes of play was Christian Benteke, who made his Audi Field debut with D.C. United.
Bentke had himself some beautiful headers, one that was blocked and another that went just left of the goalkeeper.
After the end of an energetic First Half of play, D.C. United had hoped that they would continue their style of play in the Second Half, to find that Colorado was able to counter whatever strategy that they had while gaining some momentum on their side of the field.

D.C. United then had themselves a golden opportunity around the 66th minute. That was when Keegan Rosenberry of the Rapids was called for a hand ball in the penalty area, that had set up a penalty kick for Benteke.

Taking a deep breath and looking to see what spot he may try to cash in on Benteke took his kick, but sadly was denied his opportunity. Thankfully shortly after that the black and red had themselves another opportunity and that was also denied.
There was a great back-and-forth play by both sides, but at the end of the day neither team was able to convert.
For D.C. United this would have been a great chance to pick up some positive momentum, as the team had just picked up a huge victory over New York City FC on Wednesday night. As for the Rapids, if they would have won that would have helped their chances in the hunt for a playoff spot.
Sadly both sides were unable to convert on their chances and walked away wondering, what if.
Now D.C. United will have some time to rest, recuperate and plan as they will have a road game against Real Salt Lake, in which they can see how they can bounce back. The match between D.C. United and Real Salt Lake is set for 9:30 p.m.
