New York Liberty staying alive after 91-73 over Dallas

The New York Liberty (14-20) kept their 2022 WNBA Playoffs hopes alive with their latest 91-73 victory over the Dallas Wings (17-17) on Wednesday night. It has been a rollercoaster of a season for this talented squad, as the season did not start the way that most had hoped.

Through a ton of adversity and a no quit attitude the Liberty have battled back to where they are fourth in the Eastern Conference. The ladies are down to the final two games of the season as they have a home-and-home against the Atlanta Dream to wrap up regular season play.

Getting back to the action against Dallas, it has been a total team effort that has been able to lift the ladies to a 14-20 record. One of the biggest stats is the fact that the Liberty was able to record a season-high 50 points from their bench that helped to lead them to victory.

1495 Sports is proud to bring the following New York Liberty Post Game Press Conference from 8/10/2022. This was after the team’s 91-73 victory over the Dallas Wings. Video features thoughts from Head Coach Sandy Brondello along with Sami Whitcomb and Marine Johannes:

On the offensive side of the court, the Liberty were led by four players, as Sami Whitcomb, Sabrina Ionescu, Marine Johannes and the returning Betnijah Laney.

Whitcomb was the main star of the show, as she was able to have a team-high 15 points off the bench. Sabrina Ionescu turned on the scoring for the Liberty in the third quarter, as she was able to tally 13 total (11 in that frame alone) to go along with a team-high nine rebounds and seven assists.

Also having 13 points was Marine Johannes who had herself a terrific showing by taking over some moments in the game for the Liberty. Johannes finished the night with a 71.4% shooting mark from the field, which was her second consecutive game of double-digit scoring.

In what has been a welcome sight for the team Betnijah Laney was able to finish the game with 11 points on 60% shooting. Laney, who has always been a key piece for the Liberty, was missing for most of the season with an injury. Now that she has returned Laney is going to be a huge part of the Liberty’s final two games, and hopefully push toward the 2022 WNBA Playoffs.

The New York Liberty will continue their playoff push by heading to the Peach State to take on the Atlanta Dream in the first game of a two-game, away-and-home set on Friday, August 12 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
