The St. John’s Men’s Basketball team will travel to Ames, Iowa, to take on Iowa State in next season’s Big 12-BIG EAST Battle, it was announced on Thursday by the conference offices.
The two teams will meet on Sunday, Dec. 4 inside Hilton Coliseum. Tip-off time and a TV designation for the matchup have not yet been determined.
Red Storm Head Coach Mike Anderson is 8-3 all-time against Iowa State as a head coach, having last met the Cyclones during the 2014-15 season while at Arkansas.
St. John’s and Iowa State have met only once in the history of the two programs, a 71-47 win for the Johnnies on Dec. 21, 1948, at Madison Square Garden.
Last season, after notching just two wins during the 2020-21 campaign, Iowa State went 22-13 and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
St. John’s is 1-1 in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle, defeating West Virginia at Madison Square Garden during the 2019-20 season before falling to eventual national champion Kansas this past December at UBS Arena. A trip to Lubbock, Texas, to take on Texas Tech during the 2020-21 season was called off due to COVID concerns.
The BIG EAST went 8-2 during the first edition of the event in 2019-20. The conferences have split each of the last two seasons, going 3-3 in 2020-21 and 5-5 a year ago.
