On a beautiful day at Audi Field D.C. United fell to New York City FC by a final score of 2-0 in MLS action.
The night could have been different for D.C. United as they had so many sizzling opportunities during the first half of play.
Brad Smith was one of the better chances the black-and-red had, but his opportunity had struck at the post. It was sometime after that NYCFC through some tremendous combinations were able to get their first goal thanks to Alexander Callens in the fifth minute.

Callens was able to find a beauty of a pass from Chris Gloster, who was able to get a cross from the left that Alexander was able to head to the back of the cage.
These two quality teams went back-and-forth throughout the early stages of the match, with D.C. United got a quality chance after Sofiane Djeffal’s effort from the edge was hit the left post.

Some brilliant soccer was played by both clubs, but one could tell that New York City FC was enjoying playing on the bigger pitch of Audi Field, as some great quality passing was seen throughout the match. Taty Castellanos had himself three tremendous opportunities that were denied, while Keaton Parks also had himself a great chance as well.

The night favored New York City FC as VAR led to a spot-kick, which led to a sweet stutter step goal by Castellanos to double the lead.
From there New York City FC had just played with the ball, limiting D.C. United had chances and went into the locker room with a 2-0 lead.
D. C. United showed some great heart as in the 76th minute Steve Birnbaum header was deflected by Callens. Getting into the game later on for the black-and-red was Taxiarchis Fountas, who had himself an impressive burst of speed that led to a shot that just went wide.
Some of the notable moments for D.C. United was the fact that Sami Guediri was able to join the squad on a loan from Loudon United in the 46th minute. Rafael Romo was able to make his first career MLS start and was able to tally four saves. In what was a milestone moment Russell Canouse made his 100th career MLS regular season appearance in the match.
D.C. United will have a quick turnaround as they have a match this Saturday at Audi Field against Toronto FC with the start of that match set for 4:00 p.m. New York City FC, meanwhile, will play on Sunday against the Chicago Fire at Citi Field with the start of that match set for 5:00 p.m.
