With rain going sideways at Audi Field the fans of D.C. United were in for a treat on the pitch, as the guys were able to blank the Houston Dynamo 2-0 in MLS action on Saturday Night.
With the victory the black-and-red hold a 7-15-5 mark against the Dynamo, while having a 6-5-3 mark at Audi Field. The team now has a 3-3-0 mark at home during this 2022 Campaign, while showing some great forms thanks to new Head Coach Chad Ashton.
One could tell that the night was going to be a close one, as the Dynamo did a fantastic job of clogging up the opportunities that D.C. United had, as it had seemed as if the home side was trying to get the ball up the middle.
After a while, the black-and-red changed up their strategy and started to find the combinations needed. It was at the 35’ of the First Half where a corner by Julian Gressel found Taxi Fountas, who a brilliant finish for the 1-0 lead.

Fountas was not finished with the scoring as right before the end of the half he was able to finish off a beautiful passing opportunity from Brad Smith and Brendan Hines-Ike, and that gave D.C. United a 2-0 lead.
For Fountas, those were his third and fourth goals of the season, and one can tell that he is going to make a huge impact for the black-and-red as the season progresses. Other memorable notes from the match is that Smith and Hines-Ike were able to record their first assists of the 2022 season, while Gressel recorded his fourth assist of the MLS Season.
There were lots of other notable moments that included the first appearance of Rafael Romo, who made his first MLS appearance in the 49th minute, the return of Bill Hamid to the cage, as well as Sofiane Djeffal making his first start since suffering an injury on April 16.
Overall D.C. United have been impressive in their two games at Audi Field under Coach Ashton, showing some great defensive alignments as well as some great combinations on offense.
Up next for D.C. United will be a US Open Cup match at Audi Field against the New York Red Bulls. The match will take place at Audi Field with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m. For anyone who wants to catch the action they can do so on the ESPN Plus network.
