Hofstra Men’s Hoops Adds Transfer Tyler Thomas

The Hofstra Men’s Basketball program added a big offseason addition as Tyler Thomas, a 6-3 guard from Sacred Heart University, announced he is transferring to the Pride. 

Thomas will have two seasons of eligibility remaining with Hofstra and fortifies a roster that already includes returning starters in Darlinstone DubarAaron Estrada, and Abayomi Iyiola

“Tyler is a dynamic addition to our roster and we are thrilled that he has decided to join the Hofstra family,” commented Hofstra Head Men’s Basketball Coach Speedy Claxton. “Tyler can score at multiple levels and we know the future is certainly bright for Hofstra with Tyler joining our program!”

Thomas is a high-scoring perimeter threat who has already scored 1,004 career points in his three seasons at Sacred Heart. 

Thomas was named Northeast Conference Third Team All-Conference this season after averaging a team-best 16.4 points, along with 3.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He played in all 30 games and averaged 33 minutes per outing. 

It was the third postseason honor of his career as Thomas was named NEC Second Team All-Conference and also the NEC Most Improved Player in 2020-21. He averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game in 2020-21. 

A native of New Haven, Connecticut, Thomas attended Amity Regional High School in Woodbridge, CT, where he averaged 26 points, eight rebounds, and five assists per contest and earned New Haven Register All-Area MVP honors. During his senior season, Amity made it to the state finals, the first team in school history to reach either the state semifinals or state finals. 

Thomas finished his high school career with 1,531 career points, the second-most in school history. He was also a 2018 McDonald’s All American nominee. 

He also spent a postgrad year at Williston Prep in Easthampton, Massachusetts, where he earned All-NEPSAC First Team accolades.
