Gotham FC midfielder Kristie Mewis and forward Margaret “Midge” Purce have been announced as part of the 23-player United States Women’s National Team Roster set to compete in the 2022 SheBelieves Cup. The United States begins competition on Thursday February 17th when they take on the Czech Republic at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
This is not the first time either player will feature for Vlatko Andonovski’s vaunted United States Women’s National Team squad.
In November, Purce was named to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster ahead of two international friendlies in Australia, taking her number of international caps up to nine. Purce was also one of the 26 names among Vlatko Andonovski’s player roster for the BioSteel Training Camp in Austin, Texas in January, with this appointment to the SheBelieves Cup roster adding another distinction to her young national team career.
Kristie Mewis was also named to the player roster for the BioSteel Training Camp in Austin, Texas in January, and looks to continue her strong international play in this year’s SheBelieves Cup. Mewis has made 33 appearances for her country in her international career, totaling 4 goals and 4 assists on the United States Women’s National Team stage.
U.S. Soccer will host the seventh annual SheBelieves Cup from February 17th to February 23rd, as the Czech Republic, Iceland, and New Zealand travel to the states to compete in the international tournament. The SheBelieves Cup is part of U.S. Soccer’s SheBelieves initiative to inspire and empower women and girls to achieve their goals in sport and beyond.
