St. John’s sophomore guard Posh Alexander has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced on Monday by the league office.
Alexander, the reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, led the Red Storm to a decisive 21-point victory over Seton Hall on Monday in South Orange, scoring a game-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. The sophomore from Brooklyn went 7-for-12 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
On Thursday, Alexander earned a place on the watch list for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award, one of only 15 student-athletes nationwide to find a spot on the ledger.
On Saturday at No. 14 Villanova, Alexander added seven points, three rebounds and a pair of assists, as the Johnnies fell to 1-1 on the week.
On the season, Alexander ranks second on the team and ninth in the BIG EAST in scoring at 14.8 points per game. The Our Saviour Lutheran product also places second in the league in assists per contest (4.8) while pacing the conference and ranking seventh nationally in steals (2.4).
Alexander and the Red Storm will return to action on Tuesday night at Carnesecca Arena, playing host to nationally ranked Providence at 9 p.m. To purchase tickets, click here.
