For the fifth time this season, Julian Champagnie has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced this morning by the conference office.
Champagnie, the second leading scorer in the conference, averaged 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds during a 1-1 week for the Johnnies.
The Brooklyn native opened the week with the most prolific individual effort of his career in a home win against DePaul. Coming off a 24-day layoff between appearances, Champagnie logged a pair of new career-highs with 34 points and 16 rebounds. He went 12-of-22 from the floor and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc while adding six points from the charity stripe. The reigning First Team All-BIG EAST selection grabbed 14 of his 16 caroms on the defensive glass and also blocked three shots during the Red Storm’s conference opener.
In a Saturday loss to No. 16 Providence, Champagnie reached double figures for the 37th consecutive game, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds and a pair of steals.
On the season, Champagnie ranks 15th nationally in scoring average (20.7). He also currently sits inside the top 10 of the conference in rebounding (9th– 7.5), steals (2nd– 1.9) and blocks (8th– 1.5).
Champagnie and the Red Storm will return to action on Wednesday night against UConn in Storrs. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. at Gampel Pavilion. The Johnnies will then host Georgetown for the 119th meeting in their storied rivalry on Sunday at Madison Square Garden.
