After matching a career-high with 35 points on Sunday against DePaul, Leilani Correa has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the conference office.
The leading scorer in the BIG EAST at 20.8 points per game, Correa recorded 35 points for the third time as a Johnnie. The Manchester, N.J., native needed only 19 field goal attempts to reach that mark, going 13-of-19 from the floor, including a 4-for-8 showing from 3-point range, and making five of her six free throw attempts. Correa also pulled down eight boards, dished out three assists and swiped four steals in the setback against the league-leading Blue Demons.
On the season, Correa is averaging her league-best 20.8 points per outing on 45.6 percent shooting, including a 35.8 percent effort from deep that ranks top-15 in the league. Defensively, the 2021 First Team All-BIG EAST selection sits seventh in the conference with 1.6 steals per contest.
Monday marks the second time this season that Correa has found a spot on the five-play weekly honor roll. She also earned the recognition on Nov. 15 after averaging 20.0 points in the Red Storm’s first two outings of the season.
Correa and the Red Storm are set to return to action on Friday, Dec. 31, at 12 p.m. against Georgetown in the nation’s capital.
