Red Storm Women’s Basketball to Open BIG EAST Play on Sunday against Seton Hall

The St. John’s Women’s Basketball team will kick off BIG EAST action on Sunday afternoon at Carnesecca Arena, welcoming Seton Hall for a 2 p.m. matchup.

The contest between the Red Storm (3-4) and the Pirates (3-3, 0-1 BIG EAST) will be broadcast live on FS1 with John Fanta and Kim Adams on the call from Queens.

The Johnnies aim to bounce back from a 73-65 setback against then-no. 19 UCLA on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Gulf Coast Showcase. For the third time this season, Leilani Correa led the way for the Red Storm offensively, pouring in 17 points. Correa also dished out three assists and grabbed two steals against the nationally ranked Bruins.

In addition to Correa, Danielle Patterson also delivered a strong performance against the Bruins, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her collegiate career. Patterson, who has come off the bench for the Red Storm squad this season, has notched double-figures in three-consecutive games for the Johnnies.

Returning to Carnesecca Arena for the first time since Nov. 21, St. John’s looks to get back in the win column. The Red Storm owns a 2-0 record in Queens this season, and is aiming to pick up its first against a BIG EAST foe.

Entering BIG EAST action, Correa is boasting a team-high 18.0 points per game to sit fifth overall in the conference. The Manchester, N.J., native has finished in double figures in all six games that she has played in this season, eclipsing the 20-point plateau on two different occasions.

As a team, St. John’s sits third in the conference for scoring offense, knocking down 73.6 points per game. The Johnnies are leading the league in three-pointers made, draining 9.1 per contest.

St. John’s and Seton Hall will meet for the 84th time in the history of the two programs. The Red leads the all-time series, 49-34, including a 26-11 mark inside Carnesecca Arena.

Seton Hall comes to Queens with a record of 3-3. The Pirates are coming off of a 74-49 setback to No. 2 Connecticut on Friday night. Despite falling victim to the Huskies, junior guard Lauren Park-Lane recorded a team-high 20 points to go with a team-best five assists and four rebounds.

On the season, Park-Lane paces the way for the Pirates offensively, averaging 19.2 points per game to sit second overall in the BIG EAST. The Wilmington, Del., native is also dishing out 6.3 assists per contest, the second best in the league.
