Hofstra won its second straight game and improved to 3-4 on the season on Saturday with a 98-84 wire-to-wire victory over Detroit Mercy. The Pride got strong outings out of several players as senior Omar Silverio had 28 points, including tying the school record with eight three-pointers, while graduate student Zach Cooks posted 20 points, five rebounds, five assists, and five steals, and junior Aaron Estrada chipped in with 16 points, nine assists, and five rebounds.

Cooks is tops on the team in scoring with 18.7 points per game, while graduate student Jalen Ray (15.2 ppg), sophomore Darlinstone Dubar (12.3 ppg), Estrada (12.3 ppg), and Silverio (11.1) all average in double figures. Dubar has led the team in rebounding over the last few games and is averaging 6.7 rebounds per outing, while Estrada is tops on the roster with 4.1 assists per contest.

Princeton is 5-2 this season and has won three of its last four games, including an 89-79 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday. Four players average in double figures for the Tigers with Ethan Wright leading the way with 15.3 points per outing. Wright is also the top rebounder at 8.0 per contest and Evbuomwan has dished out a team-high 29 assists.

This will be the seventh all-time meeting between Hofstra and Princeton with the series tied at 3-3. The teams first met in the second game of the 1955-56 season with Hofstra capturing a 69-60 road win over the Tigers. The most recent meeting was an 87-72 Pride road win during the 2019-20 campaign. Princeton’s last win in the series was a 54-42 win in 1991-92.

Both programs are connected by a former head coach as Butch van Breda Kolff led each programs at one time. van Breda Kolff was the head coach at Hofstra from 1955-62 and again from 1988-94 and led Princeton from 1962-67.
