Hofstra graduate student Jalen Ray has been named to the watch list for the 2021-22 Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award.
The award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball, honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.
Ray enters the 2021-22 campaign with 1,334 career points and 221 career three-pointers. He ranks 17th in program history in scoring and fourth in school history in three-pointers. In addition he is ranked eighth with 123 games played.
An All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team selection last season, he averaged a team-best 19.3 points per game, along with 3.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals. He was first in three-pointers made (64), fourth in rebounding, second in assists, and first in steals. He ranked second in the CAA in scoring.
Players on teams from the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
