On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Washington D.C. the Washington Spirit took to the pitch at Audi Field and were able to defeat the Houston Dash by a score of 1-0. The match on October 31, was the regular season finale for the 2021 NWSL Season, as well as the final regular season home match for the Washington Spirit.

The ladies set a great pace early on a wonderful scoring chance by Ashley Sanchez at the 5′ from just outside the 18-yard box. Shortly after Ashley Hatch had a great opportunity of her own, which was denied by an athletic save by Dash keeper Jane Campbell.

Washington continued to push the tempo in the First Hal of play, putting quality chances on the net. At the 25′ Tegan McGrady had her attempt denied by Campbell.

1495 Sports is proud to bring the following photos from the match:

Houston create some quality chances on their side of the field as well, but it was Spirit keeper Aubrey Bledsoe, who stood tall and denied the visiting side to keep things scoreless at the Half.

It was in the Second Half when Trinity Rodman started to get into the mix for the Spirit, as she was able to drive one towards the Dash cage from a beautiful pass by Kelley O’Hara at the 54′. Washington continued to press the offensive momentum during the Second Half with some amazing opportunities.

The scoreless streak had snapped at the 76′ mark when Sam Staab was able to find Rodman who was able to break out some Xbox moves and finished the play strong for the first and only goal of the evening.

The defense was able to stand tall throughout the rest of the match denying the Dash any opportunities that they had, while closing out the shutout at Audi Field.

Thanks for their efforts the Spirit were rewarded with a First Round NWSL Playoff match on Sunday, November 7 with Kick-off Slated at 5:30 p.m.
