Graduate student Jalen Ray was named to the Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association First Team and redshirt sophomore Kvonn Cramer was named to the Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention Team, it was announced today in conjunction with the conference’s media day. In addition, Hofstra was picked fifth in the preseason poll.
The voting for the preseason poll and all-conference teams is done by the league’s head coaches, sports information directors, and media members from around the conference’s footprint.
Hofstra also received one first place vote in the preseason poll.
Ray is coming off a stellar 2020-21 campaign in which he earned All-CAA First Team honors after leading Hofstra in scoring (19.3 points per game), three-pointers (64), and steals (39), while finishing second in assists (3.3 apg) and fourth in rebounding (3.3 rpg). Ray, who started all 23 games, also earned All-Met First Team and NABC All-District First Team accolades a season ago and was the second-leading scorer in the CAA. He heads into this season ranked 17th all-time in program history in scoring (1,334), fourth with 221 three-pointers, and eighth with 123 games played.
It was a strong start to the on-court career for Cramer, who garnered CAA All-Rookie Team accolades last season after playing in all 23 games and making 14 starts. Cramer averaged 8.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 0.8 blocks, and 0.7 assists per game a season ago. He ranked first on the team in blocks, second in rebounding, and fourth in scoring, assists, and steals. One of the top rebounders in the league, he was fourth in the CAA in offensive rebounds per game (2.7) and 11th in defensive rebounds per game (4.0).
Hofstra opens the 2021-22 campaign on Tuesday, November 9 when it travels to Houston for a 7 p.m. contest. The Cougars advanced to the Final Four a season ago, compiling a 28-4 overall record.
