Washington Spirit Soar in 2-0 Victory over North Carolina

1495 Sports is proud to bring the following Washington Spirit Post Match Press Conference from 7/10. Featuring thoughts from Head Coach Richie Burke, along with stars Ashley Hatch, Ashley Sanchez

The Washington Spirit (4-2-3) were looking for a positive result at Audi Field in front of a great crowd, and were able to find one in their 2-0 result over North Carolina.

The ladies were able to gain the early momentum and offensive possession of the soccer ball and were able to maintain a great pace of play throughout the night to earn a huge victory in NWSL action on Saturday night.

Both the goalkeepers had themselves a fine showing as Aubrey Bledsoe and North Carolina Courage starter Casey Murphy had some outstanding moments. It was the tenacious offense of the Spirit that was able to solve the puzzle of Murphy finding the back of the cage.

It was in the 12th minute when Ashley Hatch was able to find the first tally thanks to some brilliant ball movement by Tegan McGrady and Ashley Sanchez.

The Spirit did a wonderful job throughout the match with their ball movement and keeping North Carolina out of their zone.

Eventually thanks to their fine play the ladies were rewarded again, as Hatch made the score 2-0 in the 46th minute. Hatch was set up thanks to what was a wonderful ball movement by Andi Sullivan.

The Spirit had the lead going into the locker at the Half, and came out of the locker with a strong defensive stance to start the Second half.

Washington had some great opportunities, but for the most part just wanted to keep the ball away from the North Carolina offense, and did a brilliant job of shutting things down to earn the 2-0 victory.

The Washington Spirit will next be in action on July 18, when they host Gotham FC at Segra Field. The match between these two teams is set for 5:00 p.m.
