The New York Mets (33-25) are in First Place in the National League East. You are reading that fact correct. They have been playing great in the month of June, picking up victories against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the San Diego Padres and the Baltimore Orioles.
New York is currently in a four game home stretch against the Chicago Cubs, as the team earned a victory against the Cubs on Monday night by a score of 5-2.
Leading the way on the offense in that game against Chicago was James McCann, Kevin Pillar who ripped a double in the Bottom of the Fourth Inning, and Dominic Smith who laced a homer in the Bottom of the Fifth.
Pitching well on Monday night was starter David Peterson, who went six innings and struck out three batters in his second win of the season.
1495 Sports is proud to bring this video interview featuring Mets Star Dominic Smith, after the team’s victory on 6/14:
The Mets will look to continue their momentum against the Cubs, as the two teams will square off for Game Two at Citi Field tonight (Tuesday Night) with the game set for 7:10 p.m. For those interested in watching the game can do so on the SNY Network
On the mound for New York will be Taijuan Walker, who has been one of the better starters in the National League this season. Thus far Walker has a 5-2 mark with a 2.07 ERA. Opposing Walker will be Alec Mills of the Cubs, Mills is returning to Chicago after having some back issues and hopes to earn a starting job after seeing some time in the bullpen.
